Although my own ventures in romance have been far from idyllic at this point my life, I find myself no less able to appreciate the music of those who have found themselves a bit more successful than I. With the message remaining the same regardless of one’s own experience, these songs either serve as an outlet for living vicariously through and providing hope to the lonely or are reflective of one’s own romantic successes. Serving as a crucial building block of the music industry, romance is not a topic that is likely to grow stale or die off in any near future.
Richly smooth and full of life, there is an element of tenderness within Danny Addison’s newest single “Lady” that oozes romantic nostalgia and beautifully finds its place amongst the others of its kind. From the moment he begins to sing, the warmth of his vocals pour over and around you as they encompass you in their fullness. Sentimental and understanding, it is the kind of song that fuels honey-colored daydreams.
Carried by intricate guitar pickings, gently echoed vocals, and perfectly placed string intervals, Addison sets a scene with the lyrics that are well-suited to the dreamy arrangement. As he effortlessly transitions from full voice to falsetto there is a building of sound that is complex and full, yet gentle and easy to listen to. The guitar carries almost flamenco-like elements and is beautifully complimented by the violins that fade in and out to match the ebb and flow of the vocals. As the song unfolds you do not have to strain to understand its meaning or place. It has a peaceful lull that immediately brings you to ease and peaceful stillness.

The delicate crafting of the lines with visually impactful wording choices and carefully drawn out pauses aids in its otherworldly quality. It is reminiscent of watching the montage in a romance film where the protagonists have come together in love. Awkward beginnings have faded into the ease of comfortability and adoration, each verse pulling the story further along. Do not mistake this romantic sentimentality as just another love ballad, though, for it beautifully sidesteps clichés and campy phrases in favor of genuine sentiment.
Lovely and full of heartfelt sentiment, “Lady” is a breath of fresh air and a welcome addition to Addison’s repertoire. Capable of evoking strong emotions through arrangement and vocals, Danny Addison is a promising artist to keep an eye on.
