The Berlin folk trio known as Might Oaks has a lot planned for 2020, including an album and back-to-back tours in Europe and North America. This month, they’ve been on tour with The Lumineers as a special guest on the European leg of the tour. With a series of tour dates and a new album in the chamber, it’ll be worth the wait; however, the band’s new single, “All Things Go”, is a great glimpse of everything in store for 2020.
“All Things Go” by Mighty Oaks, is an emotionally-driven folk single that opens eyes to what it really means to let go. The central theme surrounds the story of Ian Hooper’s parents, performed by the lead vocalist himself. In this somber vision, they paint a depressing truth glossed over by a bitter, yet relieving, feeling of acceptance.
“Death is a recurring theme in our music“, Hooper explains, “this song is about letting go. Sometimes it happens sooner than you’d have liked. That’s not unfair, it’s how life is. Accepting that takes time, but I’m at a point now where I can accept it as part of being here“.
The album, All Things Go, will be released on February, 7th 2020 and is available to pre-order.

“Goodbye, yeah all things go // That’s part of life”
Believe it or not, “All Things Go” is based on the story of how Hooper’s parents first met. A random dinner invitation from a stranger led his father to a chance encounter with a woman in an elevator. The couple went on to have two kids, but things were cut short. Although the specifics remain with Hooper, there’s a bigger picture to digest. Simply put, the experience of “letting go” follows, which is the real root of the song that everyone experiences in life.
I was no rich man
But, my love, you saw past that
An elevator ride
At the right time
Ian Hooper, Craig Sanders. and Claudio Donzelli created a moody acoustic instrumental track, which works well over glimpses of locations that hold a lot of significance in Hooper’s life.
“These are towns and places in the US and Ireland that mean a lot to my family and me. Most people will never know these places, but it means the world to me to know that my family will hear these towns immortalized in music.“
