Mike Belazis, Griffin McCulloch, and Devin East are a folk trio from Waterville, Ohio called Oliver Hazard. Last week, the band released “Greanadine” along with an animated video to match.

It’s an lighthearted tune with a soft-spoken soul. The animated music video features a freehand cartoon version of the band traversing around their hometown. Check it out!

“Grenadine”

Think about your favorite memory in the summertime, and spin it on repeat. No matter how many times you replay it, it gets sweeter every time, much like the chorus of “Grenadine”. The chorus is the most infectious little thing you’ll hear all week, and it circles back around like a fond memory. It’s funny how many times nostalgia can strike you in such a short few minutes. Once it’s in your head, it’ll make itself at home.

A rich melody and catch instrumentation lines the song. In certain ways, it brings other bands to mind, but Oliver Hazard has a humble small-town feel. The animated music video captures the tune’s whimsical style spot on. Lyrically, the song is poetic and has all of the qualities of a daily playlist gem.

Beyond the Band

The band describes their music as “a ramshackle of uprooted-folk stomp from a chain gang choir of three”. On the surface, they’re an average folk trio; however very few average folk trios get to play a set at Bonnaroo…or have an entire music festival named after them. Oliver Hazard Day is returning Saturday, August 17.

Oliver Hazard Day is a little bit more than your average day-long music festival. Aside from its lineup of different local and national musicians, community is a big focus as well. This year, Fender is supplying instruments for local musicians to educate kids on guitar basics. Plus, they’re teaming up with a local brewery to make a specialized brew  – the Oliver Hazard Ale.

The future looks bright for Oliver Hazard. In just a couple years, the trio made big leaps. We’re looking forward to what comes next for the guys.
