In a beautifully stripped-down tune, Elina takes us through the grief of letting go of a relationship that didn’t work out. Slowing her sound down to only her heavenly voice and an acoustic guitar, she reminisces on the good times and the bad with a person she loved. Her words alone are so compelling, heavy instrumentation wasn’t needed to deliver this song. She gives no explanation as to what went wrong, but she’s clearly heartbroken. Her words nearly broke my heart, too. You can tell she’s become stuck in the past, distancing herself from everything else. Her friends are starting to notice, but she still can’t stay tuned in. She goes out with them and tries to have fun, but her mind is elsewhere. She wonders if her ex is they’re struggling too. Expressing how she feels trapped by all of the memories, she desperately pleads for someone to help her out of the dark place she’s in.

“Sometimes I wish someone would find me
And break me out of here”

The worst part of a break up is the constant reminders of the other person. Even the smallest thing makes you think of an inside joke, your first date or the night you broke it off. These subtle, small-town reminders in her small town suffocate Elina with nowhere safe to escape to.

“Most of this town
It just reminds me
Of all that was you and me”

She knows she’s built walls around herself, and it’s going to take a lot to break them down, but she still begs someone to do it for her. The song is a cry for support because she can’t get back up on her own. Even though she admits it’s been a long time since they’ve been together, she can’t shake the feeling that she’s lost a part of herself. Knowing she has to fully mourn the relationship and work through the grief to move on, she says:

“I pay the highest price to be free”

She wishes to be free from the despair but feeling it is the price she continues to pay to get there.
However, this appears to be a step toward mending her heart.
I hope Elina will find her peace with her next release, but I could listen to the beauty of this one
forever.
