Sporting his folk guitar and angelic voice, you can hear singer-songwriter Kane Miller falling in love on his new song “Through That Door”. When I read the title of the song, I assumed it would be a break-up song about finally walking out the door. As it turns out, I had it completely backward. He is walking through the door to something new. His soft and comforting voice in harmony with a female voice of the same style carries us through a story of love at first sight. It’s about meeting someone who is so captivating, you can’t stay away from them. He’s just met this woman but knows there is something special about her.

“I can see starlight
Shining in your eyes
And I want to know more”

To me, this song embodies the feeling of learning to love again after a heartbreak. He sings of once trying to avoid love, but this is a love song. After a heartbreak, it can feel like you’ll never be capable of loving again, but this song is hope for those who are feeling that way. It is hard to allow yourself to be vulnerable again. You can tell he is nervous and wants to take it slow, but he can’t resist how he feels about her.

“How do you cut through the noise?
Through it all
I hear your voice”

She is the light at the end of the tunnel for him, and nothing else matters but her. Once he steps into the light, he knows he will be okay, and she is going to help him get there. He can see that he could love this woman for a long time. When people say “you just know” about being in love with someone, I think of this song.

“I don’t want to stay closed
Because I’m finally open”

This one really got me. A beautiful, heart-hitting violin melody continues to the end of the song. It’s not often a love song touches me in this way, but I can feel the progression of Kane’s emotions as if they are my own. It’s the most euphoric feeling to be comfortable around someone you just met because they bring out the best in you. You can tell he has finally met someone who truly feels the same way about him.
