FARR has a firm grasp on crafting unique sonic blends by using forward-minded production techniques and entangling their hybrid sound with a drop of electronic soul. The fated indie-electronic duo features vocalist Romeo and producer Linden Jay, who met in May 2016. Their single, “Technicolour” is a twist on alternative pop laced with threads of modern R&B.

It’s important to poke a hole in the massive quilt of pop music to keep an eye on the past. Soul, like just about every other genre, has undoubtedly grown and evolved around the woven trellis of pop music in the 21st century, which is somewhat of an amoeba. Let’s be real. Lately, it seems like pop is changing more frequently, and it’s becoming increasingly harder to define stylistically. We can spend all day compartmentalizing music and figuring out where to pin FARR on the spectrum. Instead, it’s worth understanding their creative relationship and how modern technology allows them to break professional barriers that are fading from the industry.

“Technicolour” is a song about being surrounded on all sides by the marching battalion known as “the struggle”. It explores the mindful search for beauty in the middle of an uphill battle. When it feels like your shoulders are the only pillars keeping everything from tumbling down, getting fixated on the brighter side of life isn’t a bad distraction. Sometimes we find ourselves entranced by the worries of life. Worry becomes doubt, and doubt is the seed for a monochrome mindset. Romeo sings, “Fix your mind, then your soul”.

Oh my god there you go

Living blind to the beautiful

Fix your mind, then your soul

‘Cause there’s more to life

Let’s get lost in technicolor’s glow

I’m exhausted of grays and monochromes

Such abrasion, I could overdose

Technicolor, won’t you save my soul

There isn’t too much to get tangled in when it comes to this subtle jam. Linden Jay lays down guitar chords over a deep beat and ambient samples dipped in reverb.
