The unbound freedom of childhood inspired the name “Let’s Be Giants”.  They’re one of the newer bands to grace the music scene in Montreal. In fact, they  released their debut EP,  Beaneath the Blue just recently. “Come Find Me” is about the ironic experience of finding peace in the “lost and found” bin of our own minds.

Esther Spiegelman started Let’s Be Giants in 2015 with her brother, Yankie. Since then, they added Marek McChalski on drums, Matt Wozniak on bass, Jeremie Dallaire on lead guitar. Together, they created a walls of progressive rock behind the sensual vocals of multi-instrumentalist, Esther Spiegelman.

“Come Find Me”

“Where is my mind? Have you seen me lately?”

“Come Find Me” is the colorful opening of Beneath the Blue and the first step toward the comforting depths of head space. Contrary to popular belief, the lonely center of our minds is actually “not all bad”, according to Spiegelman. After all, our minds are a self-prescribed escape from the reality of the world. There’s a lot to find in the trenches of thought, including the truest version of ourselves. Just make sure to leave a trail to find your way back out, because Let’s Be Giants makes it hard to ever want leave.

The instrumental background of “Come Find Me” is filled with light, collapsing guitars tossed all over a soft soundscape.  It’s hard not to think of Radiohead’s “Weird Fishes” from In Rainbows. According to the band’s bio, their sound also stands in line with other bands like Beach House, Slowdive, Mitski, and Warpaint. Still, Spiegelman’s vocals have a tender quality of their own, and the rest of the band backs her up. Kudos to McChalski and Wozniak for locking in the easy-going rhythm. It’s soft but effective at foreshadowing the energy that lifts her vocals to a climax, and the ambient guitar fingerpicking style is a mesmerizing complement to the haunting vocal harmonies during every smooth fall.

Spiegelman wrote, recorded, and produced the song herself. Out of the gate, she’s already teased us with the creative toolbox at the band’s disposal. Let’s Be Giants have proven themselves worthy of everyone’s radar.
