You could teach a songwriting course at UCLA based solely on Tiffany Kintzer’s new single “Rose Quartz.” Co-written with Samantha Margret, it’s a perfectly crafted song with a stunningly lovely pre-chorus and radio-ready chorus. And she accomplishes all this in just a little over two minutes – a feat that would make even Taylor Swift envious.

Rose quartz in my front left pocket

Tryna be yours, but you’ve already got someone

Kintzer grew up in Iowa, a place more famous for its Presidential primary than for pop music. Most Iowans are positive and authentic – qualities you can definitely hear in Tiffany’s music. She now lives in L.A., but it doesn’t feel like there’s an ounce of pop petulance or pretense in her artistry.

If every song on Kintzer’s upcoming EP has this much allure, she could be one of this year’s breakout stars.

How did you come up with the concept and title for “Rose Quartz”?

Rose Quartz is a type of crystal and one of its benefits is to help purify and open the heart. I always carry a crystal with me and it honestly just seemed so fitting for the track when we were in the process of writing.

Do you have a circle of co-writers in L.A. or do you prefer to write alone?

I have some co-writers that I love to work with in L.A. but I also tend to write on my own so it all just depends! I really enjoy doing both and dabble between the two.

What current artists are among your favorites?

I love Harry Styles’ new album, I’ve been listening to that a lot! I also really like Maggie Rogers, Jason Mraz, Kacey Musgraves, and Hanson.

What’s the one thing you love most about L.A. – and the one thing you miss the most about Iowa?

I love that there is so much to do in Los Angeles, lots of opportunities and so many creatives in one big city. But I honestly really miss the simplicity of Iowa, how easy everything is and how nice people are. It will always be home to me.

What song are you planning to do as a follow-up to “Rose Quartz”?

My follow-up song is in the works and under wraps at the moment 😉 But I can share some exciting news that I’m actually planning to release my debut EP at the beginning of next year. Very excited to get it out into the world.
