Amour Glamour’s “Love in the Shower” sounds like The Cure on acid. That’s not a bad thing.

It starts slow and it starts weird. Amour Glamour plays with silence in the opening few seconds of the track in a manner that grabbed my attention and kept it through the more traditional beats of the song. The song sort of fades into itself. The lyrics sound like an afterthought. The focus here is the music, as it should be.

Amour Glamour sounds like a brit-pop extraction about 20 years too late for the Brit-pop craze of the late 90s and early 2000s. In reality, he is a solo musician originally from Los Angeles. He cites The Doors and Jim Morrison as influences, which does come across in his music.

“Love in the Shower” is the kind of song that will play in an off-brand indie movie at some point, mark my words. It’s a little off-kilter and an utterly unclassifiable.

The song itself is about exactly what it says on the tin; it’s about making love in the shower. Or, more like the proposal of making love in the shower. It’s a weird song. I imagine that actually making love in the shower requires slip proof footing and a high level of athletic ability, but the song does not address those practical concerns. The singer simply puts the idea out there, like a long-term boyfriend trying to spice up his sex life.

I forget what you said

Maybe I’m already dead

I just want to wow her

So we can make love in the shower

See? Told you so.

The logistics of actually making love in the shower aside, this song makes it sound like a lot of fun, or at least worth a go, while also being fun to listen to.

If you are looking for a song that is a little trippy, “Love in the Shower” is where it’s at.
