MIDI files make life as a producer a lot easier – but getting good ones can be kind of tough. So I’ve been doing some digging around the internet searching for usable MIDI stuff, and in today’s post, I’m going to lay out the top 10 websites I’ve found. Some of these are grassroots; some are older; some are pretty slick.

They’re all a bit different (in terms of genre, range, etc.) but whether you’re a producer looking for some new inspiration or a singer looking to add some backing tracks to your performances, my guess is that at least one of these sites has got you covered.

So sit back and get ready to add some new range to your MIDI file library. Let’s dive in!

1. Unison

First up, I’ve got Unison. This site’s more than just MIDI files (which is a plus in my book) – they’ve also got over 120 MIDI packs that they claim have been used by over 220,000 producers.

Pros

  • They offer a free pack on signup
  • 120+ MIDI packs with everything from lo-fi chords to synthwave drums
  • Easy-to-use site – unlike a lot of the other options we’ll get to, these guys look like they’re from 2023.

Cons

  • You have to create an account to get the files
  • Not sure if this counts as a con, but they have more paid options than free options

Unison is frequently listed as the top place to grab MIDI files for a reason – they have a bunch of modern, sweet-sounding options, they’re easy to use, and they’re pretty darn affordable (although you do have to pay for most of their top packs).

And as I mentioned above, they offer a lot more than MIDI files, too. They produce plugins, like Bass Dragon and Drum Monkey, they offer boatloads of sample packs, and even music production courses. It’s a worthwhile ecosystem to check out if you’re making any sort of rap, pop, or electronic music.

You can check out what Unison has to offer here. (Heads up, that’s an affiliate link.)

2. Midiworld.com

Pros

  • Doesn’t require you to register for downloading
  • Covers many different genres
  • No limit on the number of downloads

Cons

  • Not the best-looking website out there

What I like the most about Midiworld.com is how quick and simple it is to grab your files from it. You’re not required to sign up or log in to find your MIDIs and there’s not even a limit on how many files you get to download before you need to register. Sure, the website could use a makeover to look a tad more modern — but hey, you’re there for MIDI files, not to appreciate their web design, right?

With over 10,000 of these files to choose from, a “lack of options” is the last thing you’d complain about. From Jazz and Classical to new school pop and rock, the website doesn’t discriminate when it comes to genres or eras. No files have any copyright on them and they’re free to use for any type of project. They won’t even get your YouTube videos demonetized so if I were you, I’d bookmark midiworld.com right away!

3. Song Galaxy

Pros

  • They have a pretty extensive database of MIDI files for popular tracks. If you want to mess around with the arrangement of a song you love, this is a fun option.
  • Very up to date. I’m writing this one week after the Barbie movie came out, and they’ve already got files for all of the songs. Impressive.
  • You can grab multi-tracks along with MIDI files (so you’ve got more options as a producer if you want them).

Cons

  • Pretty much everything is paid (but a full song is typically less than $10, so it’s pretty cheap).

Song Galaxy started out as a personal project from piano teacher Claus. He started selling MIDI files online way back in 1996, so if anyone is an OG in this space, it’s him. The idea with this site is that you can grab the MIDI files for tracks that you know and love, then use them to tailor your own production ideas into the song.

This isn’t what you’re looking for if you’re trying to create original music, but if you’re wanting to experiment with covers, it’s a great option. The only drawback is that pretty much everything is paid – but on the flip side, everything is surprisingly affordable, too.

You can check out Song Galaxy here.

4. Partners In Rhyme

Pros

  • You get the option to download files in MP3 or MIDI formats
  • Extensive library of MIDI files to choose from
  • Has alphabetically arranged MIDI files by band or artist name

Cons

  • Not all content on it is for free

Let’s make one thing clear, just because a platform doesn’t offer everything for free — doesn’t mean I won’t include it in this list! Partners In Rhyme is a prime example of just that. With such a creative name, you’d expect nothing less than an excellent platform for musicians to find exactly what they’re looking for. And if it’s MIDI files you’re after, you won’t be disappointed.

While they do sell some royalty-free MIDI files on there, you also have a huge collection of FREE ones to download and use which are just as high-quality and royalty-free. If you’re not looking to get your credit card out for these files, simply click on the “Free MIDI Files” option in the menu and continue your hunt. On the right hand side, select your preferred genre from a list of various options like motown, rock, broadway, classical, dance, and much more.

Once you click and go into the genre you’re looking for, you’ll find a ton of free MIDI files that are automatically arranged in an alphabetical order. Getting to this area of the website isn’t the easiest for first-time users, but once you’re here, you’ll find the interface pretty simple and user-friendly. All songs have their own dedicated pages, allowing you to listen to a preview before downloading its MIDI file.

5. Bitmidi.com

Pros

  • Has high-quality MIDI files
  • Layout is clean and very easy to navigate
  • Features a super helpful search function

Cons

  • Nothing worth mentioning

At number 3, we’ve got bitmidi.com. It’s the ultimate destination for all your MIDI file needs. Bitmidi’s website is extremely easy to use with a simple and clean layout that makes it a breeze to find the MIDI files you’re looking for. Whether you’re a fan of the latest pop hits, a classical music enthusiast, or a hardcore gamer, bitmidi.com has got you covered with a massive selection of MIDI files.

I love their search function! It’s like a MIDI file treasure hunt, and the search function is your map. You can seamlessly find exactly what you want, whether it’s “Despacito” or the Super Mario theme song. They also have a “featured” section, where they showcase new and popular MIDI files, so you can always stay up to date with the latest and greatest MIDI files. The quality of the MIDI files on bitmidi.com is top-notch. They are properly formatted and work seamlessly with most MIDI players. Plus, they’re all available to download for free, so you can fill your music library without breaking the bank.

In short, if you’re looking for a fun, user-friendly and reliable website to download MIDI files, look no further than bitmidi.com. With a vast collection of MIDI files, a great search function, and high-quality files, it’s the perfect spot for all your MIDI needs.

6. Freemidi.org

Pros

  • All midi files are completely free to download
  • Very quick and easy process to get files
  • Wide variety of categories and genres to choose from

Cons

  • Quality can vary between different uploads

So, I recently stumbled upon freemidi.org and I have to say, I’m pretty impressed. You get to browse through different genre sections and search for specific songs and decades to find that one song that’s stuck in your head. They’re not low on options either. The website has it all backed up — quite literally! From classic rock to contemporary pop, you won’t miss out on any type of song.

Another thing I really like about the website is that all of the midi files are completely free to download. No need to worry about any subscription costs or hidden charges. Plus, the download process is quick and seamless. Now, note that the website is user-uploaded, which means that the quality of the midi files can vary. But overall, most files are high quality and accurate to the original song.

All things considered, I think freemidi.org is a great resource for anyone looking to download midi files. With a wide variety of options and a user-friendly interface, it’s definitely worth checking out. I mean, for a free resource there’s not much to complain about with this one so you should add it to your arsenal for the next MIDI hunt!

7. MidiDB

Pros

  • Has various unique features to optimize your experience
  • Midi files are very easy to find with an effective search function
  • Effective rating system to help you distinguish the best from the rest

Cons

  • None noted!

MidiDB is one of the leading websites for downloading midi files. One of the things I like most about it is its huge selection of midi files that never lets you down. Whether you’re looking for a classic song from the 60s or a current hit, you’re likely to find it on MidiDB. Plus, the website is super snappy and easy to navigate. The interface is straightforward and intuitive, letting you quickly find exactly what you’re looking for. The search function is also very effective since you can narrow down your results with filters and find exactly what you need.

It also helps that MidiDB is super well-organized. The files are grouped by category, such as artist or genre, so you can quickly find the type of music you’re interested in. There is also a rating system which means you don’t have to waste time previewing those sub-par uploads that you wouldn’t end up using. Just look at the rating and only give it a chance if it’s high enough!

A few features that set this website apart from the others are:

  • The website is updated regularly with new midi files, so you can always find something fresh and new to download.
  • They also have a section of top-rated midi files, which is a great way to discover new and popular songs.
  • They have a section of songs that are popular in a given country, which is great for discovering songs that are popular in different parts of the world.
  • They also have a section of songs from games and movies, which is great for those who are looking for midi files from their favorite games or movies
  • They also have a Request section, in case you couldn’t find the MIDI you are looking for, you can request it and they will try their best to get it for you.
  • They also have a section of MIDI files with lyrics, which is great for singers or karaoke enthusiasts.

If all that sounds like just the right website for you, why not give it a visit at https://www.mididb.com/ right now!

8. Cymatics

Pros

  • Both paid and free options are available
  • Paid options are of premium-quality
  • Reasonable prices for paid ones
  • Great-looking website

Cons

  • Not the best website for free MIDI files

Last but not the least, I’m wrapping this list up with Cymatics.fm. They offer a wide range of MIDI files, including ones for specific genres like trap, hip hop, EDM, and more. They also offer MIDI files for different instruments, like drums, piano, and guitar, making it an excellent resource for producers and musicians alike. They’ve got both free and paid MIDI files, which means you can test out their MIDI files before committing to buying them, which is great if you’re on a budget. The paid MIDI files are also very reasonably priced and offer great value for the money.

They offer a free MIDI file of the week, which is a great way to try out their MIDI files before you commit to buying them. They also offer a “MIDI of the Month” subscription, which gives you access to exclusive MIDI files that are not available on the website. You could even invest in their “MIDI Bundle” containing multiple files in one package for a discounted price. It’s a great way to save money if you plan on buying several MIDI files from the platform anyway. Their customer support is excellent, they are always ready to help with any issues or questions you may have, so feel free to pay Cymatics a visit if you’ve got a few bucks to spare for some premium-quality MIDI files!

Final thoughts on downloading MIDI files

There are plenty of great websites out there for downloading MIDI files, but these six are definitely some of your best bets. From Cymatics.fm’s wide selection of high-quality MIDI files, to MIDI World’s user-friendly interface, every website on this list is ideal for a certain type of musician or producer. And the best part is, you don’t have to break the bank to access these resources.

So go ahead, and start exploring! And remember, these are just a few of the many websites out there where you can find MIDI files, so don’t be afraid to branch out and explore other options – this is definitely not an exhaustive list.

Happy MIDI hunting!
